If a gun has the JM stamp then it is a true Marlin not a Remington/Marlin as they don't have the JM stamp. IMO a gun with the JM stamp will hold it's value much better than a gun without it. Basically …

These have some punch reloaded with Hodgdon 322 powder. My favorite plinking loads are also 300 grain, but in lead format with IMR Trailboss.

As the others have said, JM just means that it is a proper Marlin. Even JM Marlins show up from time to time with factory defects, but it's much less likely IMO. Your's looks really nice. The old Marlin 336 rifles from the 50's through the earl 80's are my favorites.
